Writesonic is trained on GPT-3 and other AI models to create marketing copy and long-form content, which means it understands the copywriting and content-writing frameworks we have grown to love (AIDA, PAS, etc.). It can then generate new content based on these best practices.
And its output is the highest quality out of any AI writing tool I’ve tried.
It’s remarkable how readable the copy is–especially with the article writer.
It’s the only AI writer in the market which can create articles/blog posts of about 1500 words in four easy steps in under a minute.
For certain topics on websites we own, I’ve been able to produce an article with 80% AI-generated copy (and I truly believe no one would know). These articles are also ranking well.
In addition to this, its Paraphraser is another wonderful tool that can paraphrase whole paragraphs at a time and with remarkable quality.
Quora answers and its instant landing page generator are also extremely unique and impressive features.
Writesonic is also super user-friendly. Each tool within its toolbelt comes with instructions and best practices–and the interface is crystal clear.
I truly believe a 3rd grader could use Writesonic successfully. That’s how easy it is.
They’re also adding features that let you upload straight to WordPress, automatically fetch a royalty-free image, and more on seemingly a weekly basis.
It’s honestly getting easier and easier to write content with Writesonic and it can drastically reduce your workload.
Pros:
- Easy to use
- Highest quality output I’ve seen
- 100% original copy
- Free account
- Very economical and affordable for all
Cons:
- Only a few tools for organic social media content

- Unique Value Proposition
- Boss Mode / Jarvis Command
According to their site Jasper (formerly Jarvis and Conversion.AI) has read 10% of the internet and has been trained by expert marketers to write compelling copy.
They’re most peoples’ go-to AI writer and are arguably investing in the most advertising out of any tool I’ve seen (I get their ads like no one’s business and nearly every marketing influencer talks about them).
But is it really the best AI writer?
It’s definitely good–there’s no doubting that. They have some really powerful tools.
For example, the Jasper Command feature helps generate content as you write.
It’s great for long-form content and it’s probably the coolest single feature I’ve seen. I can see this drastically reducing the time it takes to write article sections that are pretty straightforward in nature.
But Jasper comes in second place to Writesonic for me because the output is noticeably lower quality. It’s not bad or anything, just not as good as Writesonic.
For example, when writing a blog post, it almost always included the exact words I used in the description with some extra content.
It basically added 10%-20% more words to the words I had, while Writesonic does a better job with context and generating new content out of your input.
That being said, Jasper has a crazy amount of cool features–making it an awesome all-around AI writer.
Internally, we’re considering having subscriptions to both Writesonic and Jasper.
Pros:
- Wide variety of features
- Good brand
- Free trial
Cons:
- Costliest and not affordable by many
- UX could improve – there are so many templates for big and small tasks that it can be difficult to quickly find the tool you need.
- Spotty quality of content output

3. Rytr
Price:
Trustpilot Score: 4.9
Best for: Short content (video descriptions, product descriptions, intros, etc.)
Features:
- Blog Ideas
- Blog Outlines
- Blog Sections
- Brand Name
- Business Ideas
- Business Pitches
- Call-to-Action
- Copywriting (AIDA, PAS, etc.)
- Emails
- Facebook Ads
- Twitter Ads
- LinkedIn Ads
- Google Ads
- Interview Questions
- Job Description
- Landing Pages
- Social Post Ideas & Captions
- Magic Command (General AI Writer)
- Product Descriptions
- Bios
- Metadata
- SMS & Notifications
- Song Lyrics
- Story Plot
- Headlines
- Testimonials
- Video Ideas & Outlines
- Video Descriptions
- Different Tones
Rytr is most well known for its simplicity. Its UX is absolutely the best out of any tool we’ve tried. Literally open up your account, choose your language, choose your use case and tone, and begin writing.
Everything is organized by document, so it’s like having a Google Doc with better AI writing capabilities.
The output, from my experience, is not of the same quality as Writesonic and Jasper. It’s solid but spotty.
Sometimes, you’ll get entire paragraphs you can use as-is, other times you won’t get a single usable piece of content from 10+ generations.
In my opinion, Rytr doesn’t naturally lend itself to being a great long-form content tool.
It will help you generate blog “sections” but isn’t super helpful when you want to generate each piece of an article at the same time.
I tried to wrangle a 1k word article for about 2 hours before finally giving up. The output just didn’t flow–it generated some decent but unconnected paragraphs.
That said, I think Rytr is a useful tool to keep in your marketing toolbelt.
It can help you generate really solid starter copy for ads and short-form content–potentially saving you several hours per week.
Pros
- Simple UX
- Very affordable
- Lots of writing “tones’ to choose from
Cons
- Lacking some key features for marketing copy
- Not great for long-form content

4. Frase
Price:
Trustpilot Score: 3.1
Best for: SEOs
Features:
- Questions Research
- Topic Research
- Content Briefs
- Content Optimization
- Concept Map
- Competitor Analysis
- Answer Machine
Frase, like INK, is an ai writer specifically designed for SEO content writers. It has a full deck of tools that help you with the entire SEO copywriting process.
Most people praise Frase for how easily it makes great outlines and content briefs–which alone can be worth the price of admission.
Similar to INK, though, Frase doesn’t help you produce entire articles.
Its output tends to be slightly better, but it still has a lot of room for improvement and is more of an SEO content writing assistant than a full-blown AI content writer.
Still, as a content marketer, the idea of reducing my workload on briefs, outlines, and research is very appealing.
The briefs aren’t perfect by any means but they’re a great start. Instead of writing everything from scratch, I can just remove some irrelevant sections it suggests.
For example, Frase can give you stats to cite while you write. It can tell you the important “People Also Ask” questions you should answer in your content. And it also auto-calculates your topic and keyword density as you write.
That’s some powerful stuff.
It’s like SurferSEO’s content editor but with the added benefit of easier research and more optimization features.
I definitely think it’s worth checking out.
Pros
- Best SEO writing AI tool out there
- Save time on research and content briefs
Cons
- Lacking when it comes to actual AI writing
- The suggestions it makes aren’t always the best (in my opinion)
- No free version

5. Copy.ai

- Emails
- YouTube Ideas
- Hashtag Generator

- Copywriting (AIDA, PAS, etc.)
- Storywriting
- Essays
- Tone Changer
- Simplify Sentences
- Sentence Rewriter
- Verb Booster
- Tone Changer
- Growth Ideas
- Name Generator
Copy.ai was designed to end writer’s block–meaning it specializes in helping you find creative ideas for blog posts, headlines, ads, and more.
With just a little bit of information about your business and a click of a button, it can generate a long list of surprisingly helpful ideas about the content you could create.
For instance, the blog idea generator took an affiliate site of mine and gave me some really solid ideas on a wide range of topics that weren’t included in the input.
And the ad copy and headline idea generators are the same. The output isn’t the absolute best, but it gives several punchy starter options that you can run with.
Copy.ai also has tools for writing blog posts, product descriptions, and more that make them stack up against the other AI writers on this list.
So, why are they ranked in the bottom half?
Because the article writer isn’t great for medium-to-long blogs. You have to enter a ton of inputs when compared to other tools and the output is slightly below average in my opinion.
That makes it not really worth the buy if you’re mainly looking for help creating blog posts.
But if you’re a copywriter who wants to reduce the amount of time you stare at a blank screen, Copy.ai can generate a huge return on investment for you.
Pros
- Does truly help destroy writer’s block
- Best output I’ve seen for ads, blog ideas, and more
Cons
- UX is rough
- Not great for long-form content

6. Peppertype.ai
Price:
Trustpilot Score: 4.8
Best for: Someone who can’t afford Writesonic or Jasper
Features:
- Quora Answers
- Content Rewriter
- Social Media Captions
- Website Headlines/Copy
- Product Descriptions
- Google Ads
- Tweet Ideas
- Blog Ideas
- Copywriting (AIDA, PAS, etc.)
- Facebook Ads
- Metadata
- Blog Conclusions
- Blog Outlines
- Blog Intros
- Content Expander
- Engaging Questions
- Customer Review Response
- First to Third Person Converter
- Content Simplifier
- Personal Bio
- Email Subject Lines
- Cold Emails
- Paragraph Writer
- Amazon Ads
Peppertype.ai is essentially the lite version of Writesonic or Jasper. It has all the tools you expect an AI writer to have–ads, metadata, blog sections, product reviews, and more.
But it’s lacking the heavy-hitting features.
You can’t write an entire article with one tool and there aren’t tools for standard social media content outside of captions and one-liners.
But these things might not matter to you. You might just need an easy-to-use and simplified general AI writer.
If that describes you, then Peppertype is a great choice.
The output is on par with other AI writers on this list and it’s cheaper than the big players.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with selecting Peppertype–just make sure you don’t have long-form content needs.
Pros
- Very easy to use
- Solid output
- Affordable
Cons
- Lacks some of the most helpful features big players have

7. INK
Price:
Trustpilot Score: 4.9
Best for: Content marketers looking for an SEO assistant
Features:
- Website Copy (Hero, CTAs, Subheadings)
- Email Copy
- YouTube Video Ideas
- YouTube Video Descriptions
- LinkedIn Ads & Content
- Facebook Ads & Content
- Product Descriptions
- Marketing Angles
- Copywriting (AIDA, PAS, etc.)
- PPC Ad Headlines
- General AI Writer
- Metadata
- Blog Intros
- Listicle Format Generator
- Reword My Sentence
- Sentence Expander
- Sentence Simplifier
- Grammar Checker
- Blog Topic Ideas
- Domain Names
- Product Ideas
- Marketing Ideas
INK is specifically designed to help you write optimized long-form content for SEO. It claims that its AI reverse-engineers your competitors’ content and shows you exactly how to beat them.
What does this look like in practice?
The tool scans the web for top-ranking content, determines the most likely success factors, and gives you a to-do list of things you need to do as you write.
Amazing, right?
It also helps you actually write that content faster with AI-writing features that help you use the right topics in your post, incorporate the right questions, hit word counts, and more.
INK also has tools for Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and more, but it’s clearly designed for SEO copywriting.
That leads to the obvious question…
Does INK live up to its promise for content marketers and SEOs???
…ehhhh….
I tested it with several different keywords and each time the output was completely off the wall.
This is literally an output I got for a random post I tried to write about whiskey:
And then I tried to enter the intro to this post and see what the output would be.
Again, what the heck is this???
After trying several more things, I’ve come to the conclusion that the actual AI content INK outputs is pretty low quality.
And that leaves us with the AI on-page tool that tells you what you need to do to rank.
This really isn’t any different than SurferSEO (my preferred option).
INK has some utility, which is why it’s on this list, but it really seems best for freelance SEO writers who want to increase their productivity by about 15%. If it improves its AI output then it’ll soar up the list.
It’s worth noting that its Chrome extension allows you to use the tool in almost any context (which is really cool and unique).
I recommend INK for SEO writers who want research and optimization to be done real-time as they write.
Pros
- Ease of use
- Designed specifically for SEO
- Great Chrome extension that helps you write faster in any context
Cons
- Low quality AI content output
- One of the most expensive tools
- It says its plagiarism free but it can look real close to plagiarism

How Much Will These AI Writing Tools Really Help?
It’s a question worth asking because after reading about all the features and low-cost plans these tools offer, it can seem like content writers should be looking for other lines of work.
And that’s what I initially thought when I first started experimenting.
The output, especially from Writesonic in my use case, was outstanding and I got articles written in 80% less time.
But the more I experimented, I quickly came to the conclusion that no AI writer right now is going to churn out content that’s 100% ready with the click of a button.
A good writer needs to wrangle, edit, change, and regenerate the output to get it where it needs to be.
Sometimes 90% of it needs to be rewritten and sometimes only 20% needs to be.
The current role any AI writer can play in your workflow right now is that of a writing assistant.
These tools can drastically reduce your time editing, researching, and ideating–and at their price points, I think any marketer is getting a great return on their investment.
How to Use AI Content in Your Marketing
Google has already come out and said AI-generated content is considered “spam” and it likely won’t have much success ranking.
So, how can you successfully use AI content in your marketing (if at all)?
By viewing any AI tool as a writing assistant rather than a writer.
AI is “trained” on data–which, in this case, means information from around the web and the inputs you give it–and spits out a unique output.
It’s “unique” because it passes plagiarism checks. But in a sense, it’s not 100% unique because it was generated with previously written content.
So, it’s easy to see why Google might have that stance.
But the reality is that every topic under the sun has “standard information”. There are universally accepted ideas, theories, and principles with everything.
And we (humans) basically do what the AI does when we’re writing about these things. We write from the collection of information we have in our brain on topics that are already widely written about.
The main difference between AI and human writing is that humans can apply unique experiences and worldviews to that information.
For example, if you’re trying to write an article about SaaS metrics to pay attention to, every other article on the internet will already say you need to look at Churn, MRR, etc.
Does that mean you shouldn’t include information on those things because everyone else did?
Of course not.
You just need to apply your knowledge and experience to that standard information so you can create something unique–whether it’s an angle, technique, or way of seeing SaaS metrics.
The same goes for AI writers.
It’s not bad to use AI writers–in fact, it is getting smarter to use them by the day.
But don’t fall into the trap of letting these tools do your marketing for you.
You, as the “CEO” of your role, need to manage and guide the AI.
You need to have a strategy for each ad, piece of content, or marketing message that you produce–and make sure the AI actually helps you accomplish that strategy.
Because at this point, you know your customers better than an AI tool does.
You’re the one who will know the questions, emotions, and problems they have. And through editing, you can input these things into AI and make unique content that isn’t “spam” in a fraction of the time.
AI Writing Software Is Here to Stay
AI writers are going to play a huge role in the marketing world from here on out. And they’ll only continue to improve.
That doesn’t mean good writers will become obsolete–it simply means they will become much more productive!
And as a business owner, the idea that you can get 1.5x-2x more output from your content and copywriters should bring a smile to your face.
…Speaking of content writers…
I have a massive guide to writing a blog post that will give you a structure and strategy behind any content you write (AI or otherwise). Click here to check it out.
